DIOCESAN ADVISOR FOR POST-PRIMARY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

JOB DESCRIPTION: To support and resource religious education in the
post-primary schools, working collaboratively with the teachers and
school management
JOB LOCATION: John Paul II Pastoral Centre, Rock Road, Killarney, Co.
Kerry
REPORTING TO: Co-ordinator of Pastoral Development
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Occasional evening and weekend work
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Engage with the Principals and Religious Education teachers in their
task of teaching and supporting the religious education and faith
formation of young people on behalf of the Diocese of Kerry.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
* Support and enhance Catholic religious education in the
post-primary schools of the diocese.
* Engage with the principal and teachers in their task of teaching
and supporting the religious education and faith formation of young
people.
* Support and resource Religious Education teachers in teaching the
RE curriculum, providing in-service as needed.
* Engage with the Religious Education teachers listening to their
concerns, affirming their good work and exploring what might address
the challenges.
* Support the work of the post-primary chaplains.
* Implement IEC Guidelines on Junior Cycle RE and Senior Cycle RE.
* Attend NAPPDA meetings.
* Organise meeting of school principals as required.
* Take a lead role with the Diocesan Education Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES
* A third level qualification for teaching religion at post primary
level, or equivalent.
* Experience in teaching Religious Education at post-primary level.
* A commitment to further training.
* Proven leadership and communication skills.
* Ability to take direction and work on her/his own initiative.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Have appropriate IT skills and office skills.
* Have a current full driving license and the use of a car.
REQUIREMENTS OF ALL DIOCESE OF KERRY STAFF
* Commitment to the Diocesan Vision and Ethos;
* Participate in regular supervision with your designated
supervisor;
* Participate in team and staff meetings, and reviews and
evaluations as requested;
* *.5 hour week with occasional evening and
weekend work involved;
* Have a flexible approach to the work in response to organisational
change, development and review of best practice;
* Undertake other duties, as may be requested by your supervisor
from time to time;
* Participate in the development of organisational policy and plans
for the Diocese of Kerry, if required;
* Be fully compliant with all the measures involved in Safeguarding
Children and Vulnerable Adults;
* Carry out administrative duties associated with this post and keep
and maintain appropriate records that shall, occasionally, be
available for review.
